Popsicle Stick Drop Activity for Toddlers

Toddlers love activities that require them to intricately use their teeny tiny fingers and sharp minds. They love it when they are able to complete a required action, however simple the task maybe. It gives them an immense sense of satisfaction. It is important to nurture this feeling and to encourage them to perform more and more such tasks that develop their hand and eye coordination and motor skills.

This post is about one such super simple activity which toddler will enjoy and is easy for Mummas to put together. All we need is a plastic box or container with a lid and a few popsicle sticks, which are also called craft sticks and are easily available in craft supply stores.

Things needed:

Plastic Box | Container with a lid
Popsicle Sticks
Knife

Method

  • Take a plastic box that is a little bigger in height than the popsicle sticks.
  • Make a slit on the lid of the container. This slit needs to be big enough for the popsicle stick to slide through. Secure the lid on the container.
  • Using a marker, mark the outline of the slit to highlight it.

That's it! The activity is ready for your mini! Place a few popsicle sticks beside the container and demonstrate how to slide through a popsicle stick through the slit on the container lid.

Watch the little one repeat the action and squeal in delight when the popsicle slides right through! :)

As a slightly more advanced version of the same activity, you can go ahead and make more slits on the lid and mark them with different colours. Now, ask your little ones to slide the right colour through the right slit so as to help teach them colour matching too!
